One of the most popular events each year are the kids races. This is the event where children from the ages of 6 - 12 are allowed out onto the race course to experience the same thrills that the Pro riders experience. Depending on the age group, the races are either a straightline drag race beginning at Norcorss St heading north on Canton St. to the finish line or a complete lap around the same course used by the Pro's. You will see everything from bikes with streamers, baskets, training wheels, bmx bikes, mountain bikes and some road bikes.

The City of Roswell, NGCA and The Kiwanis of Historic Roswell all feel that bicycle safety is one of the most important skills we can teach in order to keep children who ride safe on the roads. In order to participate in the Kid's races, children MUST participate in the Kid's Bicycle Safety Rodeo in order to race the kids races. The Kids Bicycle Safety Rodeo is an organized "class" where children learn about cycling safety and bicycle handling skills organized by the Kiwanis Club of Historic Roswell. After the "class" portion, the children will have an obstacle course to navigate through in order to "graduate" from the class and be eligible to race in the Kids Race to be held on the same course as the Pro race!

Bicycling is a wonderful recreational and competitive experience. An estimated 57 million Americans ride bikes at all levels. Sadly, each year, approximately 600 children, ages 14 and under are killed in bicycle-related incidents and 900,000 more are injured. The need and demand for bicycle safety programs increases each year with more and more children depending on their bicycles for transportation, fitness and recreation.

In an effort to promote a safer and more enjoyable community, Kiwanis Club of Historic Roswell and NGCA have recognized the safety concerns facing citizens as they relate to the streets of Atlanta. "The Kids Bicycle Safety Rodeo" will offer a fun, innovative and educational way to teach children about the inherent dangers associated with cycling by broadening their knowledge, skills, awareness and experiences on the bicycles.

The Kids Bicycle Safety Rodeo will offer children safety tips in the following areas: bicycle safety maintenance; proper helmet fit; clothing; bike handling to include steering, turning, hand signals; bike/pedestrian safety; and knowledge of community signs and rules of the road.

Following the The Kids Bicycle Safety Rodeo the children will have an opportunity to test their newly acquired skills on the course the Pros will race on, in the Shimano Youth Race Series.
